Hon. NYIRASAFARI Espérance is passionate about advocating and promoting gender equality between women and men, promoting and enhancing family cohesion as well as ensuring better life for every child. She has been appointed as Senator by H.E the President of the Republic of Rwanda on 20th September 2019 and then elected as Vice President of the Senate on 17 October 2019. Prior to that position, she served as Minister in different ministries. She holds a Master’s Degree in International Criminal Justice and Law of Human Rights.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- September 2024 up to now: Senator, member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security;
- October 2019 September 2024: Vice President of the Senate in charge of Parliamentary Affairs;
- October 2022- October 2024: Member of the Bureau of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Forum of Women Parliamentarians;
- 2018-2019: Minister of Sports and Culture
- 2016-2018: Minister of Gender and Family Promotion
- 2013-2016: Member of Parliament at the Lower House of Parliament of Rwanda
- 2007-2011: Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice
- 2004-2007: National Prosecutor
- 2001-2004: Chief Prosecutor at intermediate level
- 1999-2000: Staff of the Association “HAGURUKA” in the field of women’s and children’s rights.
EDUCATION:
- 2018: Master’s Degree in International Criminal Justice and Law of Human Rights, from the University of Rwanda
- 2000: Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the former National University of Rwanda.
